"For over 25 years I have lived and gardened in the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 7400', garden zone 4. The soil is lean and alkaline, with lots of decomposed granite. The climate is arid, often windy and the high altitude sun is intense. I live amongst pack rats, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, voles, deer and elk - all creatures that are as interested in my plants as much as I. Native species are my preference. I hope sharing my successes, challenges and outright failures in my adventure of alpine gardening will lend insight to your experiments in gardening. Patience, as well as a sense of adventure and determination are definitely required to garden in my locale!"
